The increasing popularity of social media has put focus on just how deep our "I trouble" goes. We're constantly photographing ourselves and then checking to see how many people approve of the post—aka approve/like us. Sadly, the very same media are sources of ridicule—something none of us want. Yet, while we lie in fear of being ridiculed, we allow it—or laugh at it—when it happens to someone else. Shame on us! True humility understands that all human beings have dignity. We are no better or worse than anyone else. Therefore we should neither crave the approval of men nor fear their behaviour towards us.

Let's pray: From the desire of being approved and the fear of being ridiculed, deliver me, Jesus. Amen!

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves." (Mt 11:29)
