Jesus, Meek and Humble of Heart, Part 7

The fear of being forgotten can leave us emotionally---sometimes physically---frozen. For many, the very thought of being left behind, being alone, is enough to drive them to the opposite extreme---clamouring to be consulted, to have our opinion matter so much to others that they seek our advice for minute details.

The fear of being forgotten can leave us emotionally—sometimes physically—frozen. For many, the very thought of being left behind, being alone, is enough to drive them to the opposite extreme—clamouring to be consulted, to have our opinion matter so much to others that they seek our advice for minute details. When people ask our opinions we equate that with love. But should our sense of self-worth come from being consulted when every other person on the planet also has an opinion. What makes our opinion greater or less than someone else's?

Let's pray: From the desire of being consulted and the fear of being forgotten, deliver me, Jesus. Amen!

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves." (Mt 11:29)
