Angels We Have Heard on High is of French origin, but its writers are lost to history. The song commemorates the story of the birth of Jesus, in which shepherds outside Bethlehem encounter a heavenly host of angels singing praise for the newborn Son of God. The song was translated from French to English by James Chadwick in 1862.
