The words save Brody's ma and sister from awful fates at the hands of those same English. But who can save Brody and Megan from their own battles of will, ego, Brody's need to have his authority respected as a man, and Megan's need to express her high-spiritedness? Megan plans to have Brody fall in love with her older sister, but when her plans begin to succeed, where does that leave her?

I loved this story for its history and intrigue, its romance, and its subtlety. While the reader knows the goal of the couple is complete unity, it is never stated in an unseemly or embarrassing way,nor is too much information given. Also, just as much, if not more, emphasis is put upon the character of the two main characters and their ability to understand the needs of the other and how to meet those emotional needs that also pave the way to greater intimacy.
