The shorter version

Pelican Book Group (Pelican Ventures, LLC) and its divisions do not sell email addresses or personal information to any outside companies whatsoever. The information we collect through the ordering process is for verification only and is kept strictly confidential. We care about your personal privacy as much as you do.

We use a secure server and take precautions to secure the information provided to us. When you voluntarily provide product reviews, you are allowing Pelican Ventures, LLC and it's divisions and affiliates to quote the review and to use your name in connection with that review.

Subscribing to our mailing lists/newsletter is voluntary, and once subscribed, you may unsubscribe at any time. Unsubscribing to our newsletter does not mean you will not receive correspondence from us regarding your account or purchases. If you create an account on our site, you may cancel that account and ask for your account to be deleted. Cancelling an account means it will no longer be active, but that doesn't mean the information is automatically immediately deleted. If you want your account deleted, please use the contact form on the site to let us know.

In line with the recent requests to let visitors know about tracking cookies. Our site does use cookies to help make your browsing experience more efficient and pleasant, and we do use Google Analytics to help us analyse the information we collect. . We do not and never will sell any of the information collected while you browse.

The longer version:

We collect information to provide better services to all our users — from figuring out which language you speak, to more complex things like which content you’ll find most useful. The information Pelican collects, and how that information is used, depends on how you use our services and how you manage your privacy controls.

When you’re not signed in, we store the information we collect with unique identifiers tied to the browser, application, or device you’re using. We also collect information that we store with your account—things like which books you purchased, which we treat as personal information. If this information is used publicly, it is made generic. For example, we may reveal publicly that “four hundred people purchased XYZ product”, but we would not reveal, “here are the names and email address of the four hundred people who purchased XYZ product.”

When you create an Account, you provide us with personal information that includes your name and a password. You can also choose to add a phone number or other information to your account. Even if you aren’t signed in to an Account, you might choose to provide us with information — like an email address to receive updates about our services.

Where applicable, we also collect the content you create, upload, or receive from others when using our services. This includes things like messages you write and receive, photos and videos you create, reviews you might write and submit.

We collect information about the apps, browsers, and devices you use to access our site. The information we collect includes unique identifiers, browser type and settings, device type and settings, operating system, mobile network information. We also collect information about the interaction of your apps, browsers, and devices with our services, including IP address, system activity, and the date, time, and referrer URL of your request.

We collect information about your activity in our site, which we use to do things like recommend a book you might like. The activity information we collect may include: Terms you search for, Views and interactions with content and ads, Purchase activity, Activity on third-party sites and apps that are integrated into Pelican products or services.

We use your information to deliver our services like processing the terms you search for in order to return results. We use the information we collect in existing services to help us develop new ones--For example, understanding which file type people prefer to download. We use the information we collect to customize our services for you, including providing recommendations, personalized content, and customized search results.

We use data for analytics and measurement to understand how our services are used. For example, we analyze data about your visits to our sites to do things like optimize the browsing experience. And we also use data about the ads you interact with to help advertisers understand the performance of their ad campaigns. We use a variety of tools to do this, including Google Analytics.

We use information we collect, like your email address, to interact with you directly. Sometimes this is done by direct email, and sometimes this is done through a third-party service—for example, but not limited to Constant Contact. You can opt out of newsletter, product update, special offer update mailings at any time, but will always connect with you about things directly related to your account or a purchase.
