(image for) 5 of 5 Stars5 of 5 Stars Vet tech Aimee Perkins plans to meet Max, thanks to a Christian dating site. Or not…headed out of town she turns around because she forgot to feed dogs in the shelter, including a new one. Chester, an older Mountain Feist medical alert dog whose master recently passed, is scheduled for euthanasia. She can’t let that happen and takes him along. She’ll no doubt lose her job. Her scheduled drive is six hours to W VA from Ohio. Aimee’s sister is upset and warns her about Max. He plagiarized a poem. Not a good call for a street preacher who also lacked biblical knowledge. Why didn’t he have a car? He wanted her to meet halfway for Christmas spent at his preacher uncle’s home and country church. Marty Frazier, lumbermill owner, 30 lives with his mother on a mountain. Aimee loses her way during heavy falling snow, but finally sees a town sign. In the parking lot of a closed store, she retrieves her phone form under the seat, to read a text from her sister. There’s no farm or church to meet liar Max. It’s dark, her tennies are soaked, she has neither socks nor gloves, and her car goes off the road down an embankment. Ther’s no 911 service. She’s frightened by a big mountain man on a snowmobile. He yanks open her door. Aimee screams. Chester bites the man’s hand. Marty and his mother, on the other snowmobile, take Aimee to their home. She calls her sister on the landline. He is immediately attracted. They decorate a tree, that has Christmas stories. Aimee is comfortable. He offers her a cabin on the property where she could relocate and write, and also fixes her car. Aimee is reluctant to leave and accepts a job at the mercantile. Marty’s mother, is frail health, accepts Chester as a service dog. She is ready to finally leave but sees emergency vehicles headed for Mary’s home. Chester saved the day. A hospital kiss seals Aimee’s relocation and this reader enjoyed the HEA. I received an ARC of this story in exchange for my own thoughts.
