Toymaker Noel Donner is in London during torrential December rains in hope of selling toy ideas to a sponsoring company to save his family business in Aberdeen, Scotland. Yari Ephron had an emergency meeting during Noel’s handcrafted Noah’s Ark pitch to Toyland. Her father had taken a fall. Her boss dismissed Noel’s ideas which also included a unique take on a ballerina in a music box. She wouldn’t get to present her ad campaign idea. She quit. Had to travel home. The boss lied to Noel and kept his project proposal, blaming Yari for the rejection. Noel missed the train and has to stay overnight. He also had to buy a new ticket, low funds a concern. He finds himself seated on the train with Yari. Nine hours to make amends. She set him straight and they spent time brainstorming both toy inventions. The train is delayed yet again, all night, due to a flood that caused a tree to block the track. They travel back to the last town. It turns out that her dad only broke an arm. The good news? Yari and Noel had several “dates” in the twenty-four hours they spent together. Each family insists they attend a Christmas Eve dinner. Neither wants to go, believing the family wants them to meet other singles. What a nice surprise awaits to satisfy the reader. I always look forward to another tale by Clare.
