No mystery, no over-the-top drama, just a thoroughly enjoyable story! I loved the characters in this book, and how real they are. The Kringles are genuinely good-hearted people – father, sister, and brother all dealing with the loss of their mother/wife in different ways. Christmas hasn’t been the same since she’s been gone, but this is the year the family finally starts to heal. Bethany has been trying to put on a brave face and do everything her mother used to do, and it’s exhausting. It’s not until her brother Matt brings home his friend Jay that Bethany starts to realize she needs to take care of herself. Jay is such a thoughtful, caring, observant character. It takes Matt a little longer to figure out what’s going on in his family, but he truly loves his sister – he just doesn’t always show it well. This is a truly heartwarming story and I enjoyed every page of it. One point I particularly enjoyed was the author’s perspective on what God must have felt on the first Christmas. I’d never thought about it that way. You’ll have to read the book to find out more!
