(image for) 4 of 5 Stars4 of 5 Stars Love’s Gift is a lovely story set in one of my favorite time periods, early 1900s, about a sweet American orphan of Chinese ancestry, Amaranth Beach. While I’ve read many books from this era, learning about the prejudice she faced was something I had rarely thought of, and appreciated learning about. Her path to happily ever after with William Tildon is littered with obstacles. She is employed as a secretary by his wealthy mother. Her past experiences with the circumstances of her birth and prejudice have left her feeling unworthy of love. But most of all, William has family baggage of his own and is severely embittered and unforgiving. Amaranth cannot imagine or allow a relationship with William until he makes peace with God. While at times Amaranth seemed a bit childlike and naive due to her upbringing as an orphan, she possessed a deep faith that never wavered and that she unashamedly lived out through every trial. This was very inspirational to me. And the meaning of the title, Love’s Gift, eluded me until almost the end. When it was revealed, it made my heart smile.
