When a wagon train undergoes a disaster, the town of West Ridge takes in several of the surviving women and children. They arrive in the town on The Welcome Wagon and are greeted by the townspeople, including a handsome (and single) sheriff, Owen Somers. One of the women, Maggie Lynn, hides a secret of something she has done. And that act forces her to steer clear of Owen.
