Ivy Eston is dreading Christmas. The eldest of six, she’s the only one of her siblings not married with children. She’s also tired of being asked if she has a boyfriend. She’s tempted to run away and spend Christmas abroad, but her grandmother’s ill health, and current travel restrictions, means Ivy’s staying home instead.
Firefighter Rhett Butler is perfectly content saving lives all day long and coming home to his cat who never needs more than he’s prepared to give. After all, if God wanted him married, He’d throw the right woman at him. However, Rhett isn’t sure he can face another round of Christmas parties alone, and he can’t exactly take the cat.
A chance encounter with Ivy offers a solution to both their dilemmas, especially if they can keep things strictly business. But things are never that straightforward when Christmas comes to town.
What a short, perfect read for a winter afternoon—or in my case, since I was reading the ARC in September—a too-warm, sunny one. Ivy and Rhett have a wonderful cute-meet and ultimately decide to serve as one another’s “holidate” for various social events of the season. Both captivated me from the start, and his nickname made me laugh out loud. They both have big, noisy families and that added to the fun as they were all too anxious to see a love match evolve. I knew this would be a relaxing read with a warm, happy ending, and the one tense, potentially heart-stopping situation was resolved quickly. The bonus was a cameo appearance from two premier characters from another series—well done, Clare Revell!
Single florist Ivy dreads an upcoming family gathering but will go for the sake of her grandmother. Firefighter Rhett Butler (really!) is single but for his cat. She falls for the third time in his presence, at the discovery he lives across the street. He proposes that she be his holidate for Christmas gatherings, and fun charades ensue. A humorous and lovely Christmas story of hope, highly recommended.
When Ivy Eston falls out of the flower truck into the arms of Rhett Butler, a local fireman, little does she know her life will change. To escape the questions and judgement of their families during the Christmas season, they both agree to pretend to be dating. But as time passes, their pretend relationship grows into a real one. This is a fun Christmas read, chocked full of all sorts of missteps and mysteries. Grab warm slippers and a cup of hot cocoa.
