    Description

He left a letter instead of having a conversation. She spent fifteen years deciding that was acceptable.

Private investigator Freddie Flynn has built her career, her independence, her carefully managed distance from God, on the foundation of that decision. Then Jason Bryant walks through the door as her new vice president, and the foundation turns out to be less stable than advertised.

Jason is her ex-fiancé. The man who left a letter and then disappeared to the mission field—taking her faith and her future with him. She has been professionally avoiding him for seven years. Now he is her boss, her assigned partner, and, somewhere on the Cornish coast, possibly the only honest person left in the building.

In the cliffside village of Trelawney, a missing man's cryptic journal, a smuggling ring buried in an abandoned mine, and fifteen years of unfinished truth have a way of refusing to wait. The professional distance Freddie has so carefully maintained is running out of road. So, as it turns out, is her certainty that God has nothing left to say to her.

After the Fire is a slow-burn second-chance romance with genuine suspense and a faith-restoration arc that yearns to be witnessed. For readers who are tired of easy reconciliations, whether with people or with God.

dlathambooks@gmail.com (Saturday, 18 February 2012) Rating: 5 Great romantic suspense! Revell's characters are well-rounded, believable, and wonderfully engaging. Freddie in particular becomes walk-off-the-page real with a number of quirks and hang-ups. 1) She's hauling around fifteen-years' worth of pent-up hurt and anger; 2) Without even realizing it, she longs for something to fill the loneliness inside—but not God, who has never done her any favors. He had come between her and Jason even more effectively than another woman would have. How does one compete with God, after all?; rn3) The "tough gal" image she stubbornly portrays; and 4) A quick wit and ready humor. It all adds up to an honestly good tale. Readers will lose themselves within the pages of After the Fire, and when it's time to say good-bye to Freddie and Jason, they will do so with actual regret. One can't help falling in love with both hero and heroine; and the bad guys…well, they are very, very bad. W

donnabasinow@yahoo.com (Saturday, 04 February 2012) Rating: 5 After the Fire is full of attitude - I loved it! What a spunky lead character Freddie is! She is ever on guard of her already broken heart, trying to keep it from being broken again. And on top of that, to be suspected and not trusted by the person who still holds it could be devastating.rnrnMisjudging a person is never easy to apologize for - doing it twice can be downright devastating. Jason is a man's man who stands on ethics and morals and Godly principles. But he still hasn't learned one of the golden rules - not to judge others - because what you see isn't always what it appears to be.rnrnGreat characters, great story! I loved it!

dorahiers@msn.com (Friday, 27 January 2012) Rating: 5 What a wild ride in After The Fire!rnrnMeet Freddie Flynn, a maverick Private Investigator battling bitterness and blaming God for her broken relationship, and Jason Bryant, an ex-missionary pilot who takes a position working in “Uncle” Edwin’s private investigative firm.rnrnMs. Revell did a great job setting up the conflict between Freddie and Jason. Shocked to see a file showing Freddie’s name linked with betrayal and corruption within the private investigative firm, Jason determines to prove her innocence. Freddie is not thrilled that Jason is now her boss, but she likes it even less when Jason forces her to work with him on a case.rnrnMs. Revell created a sweet romance within a beautiful setting, but don’t let that fool you. There’s plenty of action in this book as Freddie and Jason work to uncover the truth. Just when you think you’re near “The End,” Ms. Revell pulls out a few more surprises. Five stars for Aft
