When the tribal elders make marriage a requirement for claiming her land, Milcah bat Zelophehad must find a betrothed straightaway. The only problem in finding a husband is that all her suitors were slain while conquering the land of Canaan. Men avoid her in order to stay alive. After praying to God to send her a bold suitor, a man from her father’s clan plummets from a tree right on top of her. Is this God answering prayer or a foolish antic by Eli, the war-scarred brother from one of her clan’s rival families? Will settling in Canaan sort out Milcah’s troubles, or have her woes just begun?

Claiming Canaan is the third book in Barbara M. Britton’s Daughters of Zelophehad series. These women, five orphaned sisters mentioned in Numbers in the Bible, have been granted the right to own property in the Promised Land. In this conclusion of the series, the daughters claim their land, but not without struggle and opposition in this male-dominated society. This book tells the story of Milcah, who is believed to carry a curse since her former love interests have perished in battle. Just when Milcah begins to despair of ever acquiring a husband, she discovers God has a mate in mind she never would have chosen for herself. The other gifts he bestows on her are far beyond any fortune she would have imagined as well. Like Barbara Britton’s other Biblical fiction books, this novel takes the reader to Bible times with its rich character descriptions and authentic depiction of the times. Claiming Canaan reflects the closeness of family and the fulfillment of God’s promises to those w

I have been immersed in the daughters of Zelophehad series and loved the conclusion. Milcah, the quiet sister, shows her strength and faith as she waits to receive her land. I wasn't too keen on Eli at first, but he grew in his love for Milcah and he grew in becoming a man of God. These sisters had me laughing and I wish I could hang out in their tent some more. I learned so much in reading Barbara Britton's books. I highly recommend this series. M. L. - PBG Booklover

I just sat down and read this very realistic story of our faith ancestors, a group of sister ‘s who insisted on redeeming their fathers land as his heirs after the battles had been fought by Joshua and his mighty men to clear the Promised Land God had lead them to of the idolatrous people who dwelt there. This is the story of Milcah, the 4th sister, whose chances for marriage and claiming her land are slipping from her. She has lost two betrothed husbands-to-be in the battlefields and no one wants to marry her, fearing a curse. This is the story of God honoring His promises to her in so many ways, while building her character and faith while doing so. A wonderful story! Lorna - PBG Booklover
