Shucker’s Point, New Jersey never had a murder until now. Jack St. Marie, a well-known research scientist is missing, and Trooper Bryce Johnson believes the worst of Jack’s wife, Evie.
In high school, Bryce loved Evie--enough to want to marry her, but that was before he witnessed her phone in a bogus bomb scare. And only two months before Jack disappeared, Bryce saw Evie aiming a gun at her husband. Can Bryce believe in Evie's innocence when her husband’s body is found in a fishing dredge twenty miles out at sea? Could the most beautiful woman in Shucker’s Point be capable of such a heinous crime? He doesn't want to believe it.
Bryce refuses to let his heart guide the investigation...until someone shoots at Evie. Then he must protect her. But can he protect his heart?
Bryce and Evie were high school sweethearts with plans to marry until a misunderstanding created a ten-year rift between them. Now, Bryce is a State Trooper and Evie is the main suspect in her husband's murder investigation. How can Bryce investigate the woman he never stopped loving? Penelope Marzec has created a page-turning romantic suspense tale with plenty of action and intrigue. I loved the relationship between Evie and her sweet daughter, as well as the reconciliation between Bryce and Evie, despite doubts and past hurts. I loved the underlying message of faith in this wonderful story!
A murder, a lighthouse keeper, a suspicious trooper, an adorable little girl, and a beloved childhood Sunday school teacher. The Keeper’s Secret combines multiple interesting elements. Poor Evie tries to build a good life for her daughter. But when her husband is murdered, Bryce, the local trooper throws her in jail. Thankfully, her second-grade Sunday school teacher Jessica is still in her life and she takes care of little Glynys. Everyone should have someone like Jessica to count on. Evie is innocent, but that means someone else killed her abusive husband. There are tiny clues sprinkled throughout the story, but I didn’t put the pieces together. This story had several great secondary characters. Besides Jessica, the pastor keeps the trooper in line with his tough love. There’s romance woven throughout the story, since Evie and Bryce were in love back in high school, but it’s hard to develop a romance with someone who thinks you’re guilty of murder!
