    Karsten’s sweet and generally wholesome addition to the Regency genre is a very likeable and charming story. I love Rosanna and her sense of independence and dignity, and desire to assist those without a champion during an era when young women had little recourse. After losing her first love, Rosanna vows never to marry, and later, to do all she can to help other women who are being coerced into marriages of convenience. The plan backfires when she realizes she can’t advertise about her recently purchased refuge, as that would alert society—the very issue she wants to avoid. It doesn’t take long before her maid, promoted to companion, finds true love in the local vicar, and Rosanna is once again being courted by a bothersome neighbor with ulterior motives. Moreover, a mysterious stranger resides in a corner of her own little kingdom—one very handsome and lonesome, lowborn cottage who shouldn’t attract Rosanna.
