Many years ago, I finally realized my dream to write\u2014after managing my Mom\u2019s dress shop and later, helping my husband in our pharmacy. I was reading and writing about fictional cowboys.<\/p>\n
Do you know the difference between RL (real life) and fictional cowboys? FCs are upstanding, good-looking, and always stand by their word. They wear polished boots, clean shirts, and shave daily.<\/p>\n
RLCs are normal people, like your brother and\/or cousins, who often are missing a tooth. Some days they have body odor, some days they don\u2019t. They usually wear boots that are scuffed and have spurs hooked on them. Some RLCs are good people, some aren\u2019t.<\/p>\n
So seeing what I was reading and writing about, my hubby asked me if I wished I\u2019d married a cowboy. I laughed out loud!<\/p>\n
No way.<\/p>\n
I\u2019d had a friend who was married to a professional cowboy. There was no way I wanted part of that.<\/p>\n
I was happily married to my pharmacist, and since he didn\u2019t understand, I explained to him.<\/p>\n
The cowboys I write about are American icons. They\u2019re upright Christian men who love their families, are always good, and willing to give a hand.<\/p>\n
In my book, JORDAN VALLEY ROUNDUP, Mitch Tanner is just that kind of man. He\u2019s a bull rider (who has all his teeth.) He lives on the family ranch with his mother and brothers, whom he\u2019s helping to raise.<\/p>\n
Their ranch has been in the family for many years. They raise rodeo stock, participate, and with a heart for others, they take in abused animals and teach them to trust.<\/p>\n
Since I\u2019m a pantser, I was surprised when Man Eater (the abused mare) showed up. I hadn\u2019t realized before how angry it makes me when someone hurts a weaker person or animal who can\u2019t protect himself.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t understand how a person could intentionally hurt another person or animal. Don\u2019t they realize there\u2019s always someone stronger or richer than they are?<\/p>\n
The Golden Rule should guide everyone. Matthew 7:12\u2014So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you<\/strong>,\u00a0for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (NIV)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n While barrel racing to earn enough to pay her uncle' s debts, Jessie Cobler' s horse falls.
