Never.&nbsp; It\u2019s right there.\u201d She pointed a trembling finger at Lissy&#8217;s house and fumbled for the handle as Brock swung the car to the curb.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">By the time he brought the vehicle to a full stop, she had the door open and one foot outside the car. Tears burned her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\u201cHannah, I\u2026\u201d Brock\u2019s bewildered expression almost passed for convincing. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, really. I didn\u2019t mean\u2026\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\u201cLissy will take us home.\u201d She ignored his apology, then slammed the car door and marched up the sidewalk, head high, back ramrod stiff.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">Davey flew out the door to meet her, his dark curls bouncing. \u201cMommy! Mommy, I missed-ed you!\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">Hannah picked him up, hugging him to her. \u201cHey, big guy! I missed-ed you too.\u201d She rarely encouraged his mispronunciation of words, but at the moment she wanted Davey to stay little for a very long time.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\u201cWho\u2019s that man, Mommy?\u201d One arm around Hannah\u2019s neck, her son pointed to the car where Brock sat watching them. \u201cHuh? Who is he?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\u201cNobody, Davey.\u201d She set the small boy on his feet. Taking his hand, she led him to Lissy&#8217;s door. Behind her, she heard the BMW pull away, but she refused to look back.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\"><i>Only your daddy, sweet boy.
