\nWhat is the best way to go about writing Christian fiction?
\nThere are many guides out there and many ways to hone your skills, but a bullet
\nlist for the Christian writer is found in I Thessalonians 5:17-22. It\u2019s
\nconcise, to the point, and easy to follow.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nPray without ceasing<\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
\nFor any writing endeavor, writing what is God\u2019s will from a
\nChristian perspective is necessary. Have you ever noticed how many little distractions
\ncome along? Pray. Pray for inspiration, encouragement, and pray to write what
\nis needed on that page.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn everything give thanks<\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
\nYou may dread critique groups but remember the verse about
\niron sharpens iron? A true partner may say something that\u2019s hard to hear. But
\nbetter a critique partner than a reader, right? I always think of The
\nFellowship of the Ring where Bilbo accuses Gandalf of trying to steal the ring
\nof power. And Gandalf answers, \u201cI\u2019m not trying to rob you. I\u2019m trying to help
\nyou.\u201d You friends and partners are the same, they\u2019re not trying to take away
\npart of your creativity, they\u2019re trying to help you write the best you can.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nQuench not the Spirit<\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
\nPlotter or pantser\u2014you have to know to write when the Spirit
\nmoves you.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nDespise not prophecyings<\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
\nOften we shy away from writing about Spiritual gifts \u2013 don\u2019t<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nProve all things<\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
\nAlso know as Suspending Disbelief. A character can do
\nanything a story can go anywhere but you have to build up to that point. You
\nhave to prove to the reader, sure there are eight seconds on this bomb and my
\nhero can diffuse it. And you do so by showing early on he\u2019s had weapons
\ntraining, etc. Don\u2019t use the \u201cBill and Ted Effect.\u201d You can\u2019t put in a solution
\nmagically. (For example \u201cRemember when we get back to the future we need to put
\nmom\u2019s keys in my pocket.\u201d) <\/div>\n
\n
<\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
\nHold fast to that which is good.<\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
\nWhy do we write? To create inspirational fiction that helps
\nothers. Granted just because your character is a Christian doesn\u2019t make them
\nperfect, but \u201cHolding fast to good\u201d should be the goal.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAbstain from all appearance of evil. <\/i><\/b><\/div>\n
\nIf your character is a Christian they need to act like Christians
\nand if they\u2019re not, they need to be moving toward that conversion experience.
\nThis is also can be a major point of conflict, as in Joseph\u2019s life while he
\ndidn\u2019t do anything with Potipher\u2019s wife he couldn\u2019t prove it. But this is often
\nan excellent starting point for a story or a way to further the plot.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nMay God guide you in each and every word you write and
\nremember \u201cFaithful is He that calleth you.\u201d<\/b><\/div>\n
