In German its first line is <em>Still, still, still, weil&#39;s Kindlein schlafen will!<\/em> <em>(Hush, hush, hush, for the little child wants to sleep!)<\/em>The melody is a folk tune from Salzburg. The tune appeared for the first time in 1865 in a folksong collection. The words have changed but the modern Standard German version remains attributed to Georg G&ouml;tsch (1895&ndash;1956). There are various English translations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe sacred space of Winchester Cathedral has echoed to music every day for almost a thousand years.
