He wrote the poem for his church and an organist, Lewis Redner, added the music.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tNat King Cole started his career as a jazz pianist. However, he also began singing and was noted for his soft baritone voice.<i> <\/i>Cole began his performing career in the mid-1930s as a teenager. He was one of the first African Americans to host a national television <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Variety_show\" title=\"Variety show\"><span style=\"color:#696969;\">variety show<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:#696969;\">,<\/span> <i>The Nat King Cole Show.<\/i> His revolutionary lineup of piano, guitar, and bass in the time of the big bands became a popular setup for jazz. After Cole&#39;s death,<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Natalie_Cole\" title=\"Natalie Cole\"><span style=\"color:#696969;\">his daughter, Natalie Cole,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:#696969;\"> laid<\/span> a new&nbsp; vocal track that was added to her father&#39;s recording of the song, <em><a class=\"mw-redirect\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unforgettable_%28song%29\" title=\"Unforgettable (song)\"><span style=\"color:#696969;\">Unforgettable,<\/span><\/a><\/em> and mixed into a new duet version as part of a tribute album.
