The tune developed separately from the words, coming from 15<sup>th<\/sup> century France.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe song is sometimes referred to as the <em>O Antiphons<\/em> because each verse begins with the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Interjection\" title=\"Interjection\"><span style=\"color:#696969;\">interjection<\/span><\/a> &quot;O&quot;.
