About Us
Pelican Ventures Book Group publishes Christian inspirational romance under the White Rose Publishing imprint, and Christian inspirational fiction in all non-romance genres under the Harbourlight Books imprint. Our company is a ministry as much as it is a publishing company that produces quality fiction. As such, it is our mission to reflect the salvation and love offered by Jesus Christ in each title we offer. Our titles adhere to mainline Christianity (see our writers' guidelines for more on that).

I believe in One God Who exists in Three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of all things visible and invisible. I believe the Second Person of the Trinity, Jesus Christ, was born of the Virgin Mary, becoming incarnate and dwelling among us. He suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried. On the third day, He rose from the dead, breaking the bonds of death for those who believe. This Paschal Mystery is our salvation--the forgiveness of sin and the redemption of souls. Jesus is the Word made flesh. Through Him all things came to be, and without Him, nothing came to be. I believe in the Third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, lives among us, guiding us to all Truth. The Holy Spirit is that force which gives us life, as God breathed live into Adam. I believe in one baptism for the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Dear White Rose Publishing patrons,
I am excited to launch this new website on Pentecost. Traditionally, Pentecost is widely known as the birthday of the Christian church the day the Holy Spirit came down upon the Apostles, the promised Advocate Who would guide the church to all truth. What perfect timing is it that our new website now shares that birthday? Our Saviour has ascended, but we are not alone. The Holy Spirit continues to breathe life into all those who choose to believe just as I have faith He breathes life into every title White Rose publishes. It is our mission not solely to entertain, but also to bring the Gospel of hope and love to those who read our stories. Jesus Christ is Risen! By His stripes we are healed, by His death and resurrection we are redeemed. Alleuia! This is His message...this is our message.
Blessings,
Nicola Martinez, Editor-in-Chief

October 2009: Word count minimums and maximums are altered to be 10,000 and 80,000 respectively.
September 2009: (Excerpted from an announcement sent to White Rose Authors)...in March we split the White Rose line off from TWRP and created its own company called White Rose Publishing. We did this for a variety of reasons, but when it boiled right down to it we realized that in order for the White Rose line to flourish it needed to be able to spread out and grow on its own... . Sort of moving it or transplanting it if you would in order to give it specialized attention.
Since March, we’ve worked hard at working on this division and at the end of this month the final piece will be finished that allows White Rose Publishing to be completely separate from TWRP.
During this time, we entered into a discussion about what was the best direction for White Rose to go in and one option that came up time and time again was that RJ and I needed someone to run White Rose Publishing who truly thrived on the inspirational market. We needed someone who knew what to do to market this niche and to take the company to another level. Fortunately, we already had someone in house who could do all that and we approached (Nicola) Martinez with a proposal that she fortunately agreed to. Effective October 1, (Nicola) will be not only be the new Editor-in-Chief for White Rose Publishing but she will also be the new owner. As most of you know, (Nicola) has been a key player in making White Rose what it is today. She was one of the three original Senior editors on the line and then as the other two Senior editors moved aside she ran the White Rose line on her own. As we discussed the possibility of spinning White Rose off; it was an easy choice as to who we invite...
We are very excited about this as it means that White Rose can truly grow in a way that can only benefit the authors. We love that (Nicola) is excited about this and that she and her White Rose editors will be able to do all the things they’ve wanted to do without restrictions.
Thank you and please join me in congratulating everyone on the White Rose team for a wonderful job and for a very successful future!
Rhonda Penders
March, 2009: We're excited to announce the arrival of White Rose Publishing. On May 1, 2006, two writing critique partners, RJ Morris and Rhonda Penders, decide to open a "kinder and gentler" publishing company. That company was, and is, The Wild Rose Press. Their premise was to grow a "garden" where authors would be treated with respect, concern, and understanding. RJ and Rhonda wanted a publishing company that didn’t make authors wonder what was happening with their manuscripts. The two also believed that no one should ever again receive a form rejection letter. If the manuscript was not something the company could use, every writer who sent a query would receive a personal, prompt, and courteous letter of rejection explaining exactly why the manuscript wasn’t accepted and what the author could do to improve it. If an author was to receive a contract, the process would be as efficient as possible, and the author would be kept in the loop with communication every step along the way. In fact, communication was to be one of the key strengths of the company.
Almost three years later, RJ and Rhonda have successfully fulfilled their goals, and over five hundred authors in a range of fourteen different lines have been published at The Wild Rose Press, and a staff of close to fifty includes a Graphic Arts Department, Production Department, Proofreading, Marketing and, of course, Editing.
Continuing to cultivate The Wild Rose Press was to be the end of the story. However in late 2008, RJ and Rhonda became aware that some Christian readers and authors were reluctant to visit The Wild Rose Press catalogue site because of some of the non-Christian covers that sometimes appear on the front page as new titles the non-Christian lines are released. Not wanting to offend, RJ and Rhonda quickly bulit a White Rose portal at www.whiterosesbooks.com so that Christian visitors could avoid non-Christian content if they so chose. But, on further research, both agreed this was not enough. VOILA! White Rose Publishing was born. With the experience of RJ and Rhonda behind it, along with the impeccable reputation and RWA recognition that The Wild Rose Press is upstanding, pays royalties promptly and on a regular basis, and is not a vanity or subsidy publishing house, White Rose Publishing sees its dawn as we move towards becoming the online place for quality Christian romance. We will publish books and stories in various lengths ranging from Rosettes, which are quick reads, to Roses, which are 100,000 word novels. All books over 65,000 words will be released in both print and ebook form. Anything less than 65K will be available as an ebook at a variety of distributors, including Amazon Kindle, Sony Ebook store, and Fictionwise, among others. Printed books will be distributed through www.amazon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com, Target.com, and can be ordered by libraries, bookstores through such distributors as Bakers and Taylor and Ingram.
As a new publishing venture, we are actively seeking quality submissions in all romance subgenre. Senior Editor Nicola Martinez, holds to strict guidelines of what is and isn’t acceptable for a White Rose book. While we will publish some titles that might be considered “edgy” according to regular CBA guidelines, with her team of three editors, Ms. Martinez will work hard to bring readers entertaining, quality stories that also glorify Christ by upholding a strict code of Christian values. For informaton on how to submit, please read our submission guidelines.
